By Md. Kamal Uddin: At a time when public safety in Chattogram has become a pressing concern and citizens are living in fear due to the growing presence of armed criminals and terrorists, Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) Commissioner Hasib Aziz’s recent declaration has come as a beacon of hope. His decision is not merely an administrative directive—it is a moral commitment and a message of courage, aimed at uplifting the morale of the police force and restoring long-lost public confidence.
Commissioner Hasib Aziz announced that any police officer who, by risking their life, captures or disarms armed terrorists through lawful means will receive a cash reward of Tk 1 lakh, an official certificate of recognition, and personal acknowledgment from the Commissioner himself.
Though the monetary value of the reward may appear limited, its psychological impact is immense—it symbolizes gratitude toward the countless officers who risk their lives daily to safeguard the people.
The Commissioner has clearly stated that the reward will be given strictly within the bounds of law and justice. No unlawful or inhumane act will be considered eligible. Each case will undergo independent and impartial investigation to verify the legitimacy of the officer’s actions.
This reflects Commissioner Hasib Aziz’s commitment to transparency and fairness—his goal is not vengeance but the preservation of justice and the rule of law while fighting terrorism.
One of the most admirable aspects of the declaration is that Commissioner Aziz has personally pledged administrative and legal accountability for his officers. This means that if an officer takes immediate and rational action in the field, he will not stand alone—the Commissioner himself will stand behind him.
This assurance is expected to instill confidence and responsibility among officers, giving new momentum to Chattogram’s law enforcement operations.
Within 72 hours of any such incident, the relevant police unit must submit a preliminary report. The CMP headquarters will then form an independent investigation committee, which must complete its inquiry within 30 days and make recommendations.
If the officer’s actions are found to be lawful, the reward will be provided within 15 working days, along with formal recognition. In certain cases, for the recipient’s safety, the reward may be given confidentially.
The entire process will be transparent, accountable, and time-bound—a shining example of efficient administration.
Another humane aspect of the declaration is the immediate medical and administrative support for injured officers. In the tragic event of a martyrdom, financial aid and official assistance will be provided promptly to the bereaved family.
This reflects not only duty but also the Commissioner’s compassion and familial bond with the police force.
Commissioner Hasib Aziz has urged citizen participation in this campaign. He called on all residents to report any information regarding terrorist movements, illegal arms storage, or unlawful activities to the police without delay.
By doing so, he has made citizens stakeholders in public safety, aligning with the core philosophy of modern policing—community partnership in maintaining peace.
The people of Chattogram—including citizens, business communities, and civic organizations—have welcomed this initiative as a bold, timely, and visionary decision. After a long time, the city has witnessed a police leadership that stands firmly by its field officers while maintaining strict adherence to law and justice.
At a time when criminals have shown blatant disregard for police authority, law, and state power, Commissioner Hasib Aziz’s announcement has met the call of the hour. It is not merely an incentive—it is a message that the State will never bow to terror.
Today, every honest police officer in Chattogram knows that a resolute leader stands behind them, ready to defend their courage and integrity.
Citizens are hopeful that, with this blend of firmness and justice, Chattogram will once again reclaim its identity as a city of peace and security.
Through this humane, firm, and visionary initiative, Police Commissioner Hasib Aziz has earned the gratitude and trust of the people of Chattogram—united under one hope: a new dawn of law, justice, and humanity.
