Narsighdi Correspondent : There have been allegations of widespread irregularities and embezzlement of money from various fees collected from students at Narsingdi Government College. At least 24 types of fees are collected from about 25,000 students every year.

According to relevant sources, about 3.11 crore taka is being collected from some specific sectors every year. The amount has stood at about 12.45 crore taka in four years.

It is alleged that although about 50 lakh taka is collected every year in the management and miscellaneous fee sector, a transparent account of the sector in which this money was spent has not been presented to the students. Although there is no effective student union in the college, about 6.25 lakh taka is being collected annually as student union fee. Similarly, there are allegations that about 5 lakh taka is being collected annually as medical fees despite the absence of any visible medical facilities. Although the government bears the salaries and allowances of teachers and employees of government institutions, it is known that about 1.25 crore taka is being collected from students every year in the name of 'essential employee fee'. Despite the lack of transport facilities, about 75 lakh taka is being collected as transport fees every year. On the other hand, a section of students claim that although about 50 lakh taka is collected annually as development fees, no visible development activities have been seen.

It is worth noting that Professor Mushtaq Ahmed Bhuiyan joined the college as the principal on August 9, 2021. It has been alleged that irregularities occurred in the collection and management of these funds during his tenure. There are also allegations of involvement in financial irregularities against the college's chief accountant, Anwar Hossain. Multiple reliable sources have claimed that there is no proper audit and transparent accounting of the huge amount of money collected from students and there is a risk of embezzlement. Multiple students, who did not want to be named, said that the principal's brother, Mosharraf Hossain Bhuiyan, was the secretary of the cabinet during the Awami League era. He is currently a fugitive abroad. His home is in Monohardi Upazila. Showing his brother's dominance, he looted this huge amount of money along with the accountant.

Despite repeated attempts to contact the principal and chief accountant regarding this matter, they did not answer the phone. There is extreme dissatisfaction among students and parents regarding the incident. Conscious circles believe that the cat will come out of the bag only if the Anti-Corruption Commission
