News Desk: The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court will give its order on Thursday (May 14) on the application filed by BNP candidate Sarwar Alamgir for the Chittagong-2 (Fatikchhari) constituency in the 13th National Parliament election seeking the declaration of results and the opportunity to take oath.
On Wednesday (May 13), a bench of the Appellate Division headed by the Chief Justice set a date for the order in this regard after hearing.
Earlier, the High Court stayed the decision of the Election Commission to cancel Sarwar Alamgir's candidacy on charges of loan default and gave him the opportunity to participate in the election. Jamaat candidate Nurul Amin filed a leave to appeal in the Appellate Division against that order.
On February 3, the Appellate Division granted leave to appeal against the confirmation of Sarwar Alamgir's candidacy. As a result, Sarwar Alamgir got the opportunity to vote. But the court ordered that the results of the vote in that constituency will be suspended until the appeal is disposed of, and the results will not be published.
Sarwar Alamgir won the election held on February 12 unofficially. But the results were not published due to a court order. In this situation, Sarwar Alamgir filed an application seeking the declaration of the results and the opportunity to take the oath.
Jamaat candidate's lawyer Shishir Monir said, a partial hearing was held today. An order will be given on the application tomorrow. In the application, Sarwar Alamgir has sought the declaration of the results and the opportunity to take the oath. We said in the hearing that if such an application is accepted without hearing the main appeal, there will be no need for the main appeal.
