Maksud Ahammed: State Minister and MP Ishraq Hossain has thanked Prime Minister Tarek Rahman for the first time on social media like Instagram and Facebook pages for announcing an increase in the monthly allowance of titled freedom fighters by Tk 5,000 in the national budget for the 2026-27 fiscal year.
One person reacted by commenting that such postings on social media basically express his respect and solidarity with the freedom fighters, the best children of the nation. He is already receiving praise from countless people.
It is worth noting that in the light of Prime Minister Tarique Rahman's implicit consent and interest, Finance Minister Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury proposed to increase the allowance of titled freedom fighter families in the budget speech for the upcoming 2026-27 fiscal year on Thursday (June 11).
The Finance Minister proposed to increase the family allowance of titled freedom fighters by 5,000 taka to 40,000 taka for Bir Shrestha, 30,000 taka for Bir Uttam, 25,000 taka for Bir Bikram and 25,000 taka for Bir Pratik respectively..jpg)
However, the monthly honorarium of ordinary freedom fighters will remain unchanged at 20,000 taka, the minister said.
The families of martyrs in the July Uprising will continue to receive 20,000 taka per month, and the injured in categories A, B and C will continue to receive 20,000, 15 and 10,000 taka per month, respectively.
It is worth noting that recently, State Minister for Liberation War Affairs Engineer Ishraq Hossain said that the government is working to protect the dignity of real freedom fighters and exclude non-freedom fighters from the list of freedom fighters. More than 6,000 non-freedom fighters have already been excluded from the list and the verification and selection process is underway.
It is worth mentioning that earlier on Sunday (June 7), at a discussion meeting titled 'What freedom fighters can do in nation building' organized by the Institution of Diploma Engineers Nationalist Freedom Fighters to mark the 45th martyrdom anniversary of the great freedom fighter, martyred President Ziaur Rahman Bir Uttam, the state minister said that those who risked their lives and took up arms in the liberation war are the ones who deserve to be recognized as freedom fighters. He also commented that the real freedom fighters have been insulted by listing non-freedom fighters.
Ishraq Hossain said that more research needs to be done by the new generation on the contribution of martyred President Ziaur Rahman to the liberation war and state governance. He also called for conducting politics in the future by adopting his ideals.
The state minister said that Ziaur Rahman paved the way for multi-party democracy and independent media and played a role in establishing the spirit of the liberation war. In the same vein, the current government is also considering the liberation war as the highest priority for state governance.
Ishraq Hossain said that the ministry is working to restructure the National Freedom Fighters Council, improve the welfare of freedom fighters, improve medical and housing facilities, and eliminate irregularities in the Bir Niwas project. He mentioned that the advice and cooperation of freedom fighters are also needed in implementing these activities.
He also said that a strong organization will be built to convey the ideals of freedom fighters to future generations, so that that spirit continues in implementing the goal of forming an independent and sovereign Bangladesh.
According to informed sources, the increase in the allowance of titled freedom fighters and other benefits taken for their welfare will enhance the image of the government formed under the leadership of Prime Minister Tarek Zia.
