Allegations of Attack, Vandalism, and Looting at a Residence in Rupganj; 3 Injured

Rupganj (Narayanganj) Correspondent: In the village of Vingrab, located in Rupganj, Narayanganj, neighbors have been accused of attacking, vandalizing, and looting a residential home, as well as assaulting its occupants, following a dispute over land boundaries. The victims include the homeowner, Md. Tota Miah (64), his wife Raushan Ara (50), and his son-in-law, Md. Abdul Matin (36). Tota Miah has filed a written complaint with the Rupganj Police Station, naming six individuals and 4–5 unidentified persons. The incident occurred around 2:30 PM on Saturday (October 24) at Tota Miah’s residence in Vingrab village. According to the victims and the written complaint, the conflict arose from a dispute with neighbors regarding the cutting of trees along the property boundary. It is alleged that Shafiqul Miah (45), Shah Alam (40), Alam Miah (50), Masum (35), Siraj (45), and Liton (40)—along with several unidentified individuals—entered Tota Miah’s home armed with local weapons. The complaint states that when Tota Miah attempted to intervene, Shafiqul Miah struck him on the head with an iron rod. His wife, Raushan Ara, and son-in-law, Abdul Matin, were also assaulted, leaving all three injured. Furthermore, the attackers reportedly caused damage estimated at approximately 200,000 BDT by hacking and vandalizing the home’s doors, windows, and two gates. The complaint also alleges that the perpetrators broke open a wardrobe drawer and stole 500,000 BDT in cash, gold jewelry valued at approximately 1.1 million BDT, and a 32-inch LED television. When neighbors arrived after hearing the victims' cries for help, the accused allegedly threatened to kill the family members if they pursued any legal action, before fleeing the scene. With the assistance of local residents, the injured were later taken to the Rupganj Upazila Health Complex for initial medical treatment. The victim, a BNP leader named Tota Miah, stated that his eldest son lives in Italy, while he resides at home with his wife and younger son. He mentioned that he has long faced harassment and disputes with his neighbors over various issues, but had endured it all for the sake of peace. He has demanded a thorough investigation into the incident and strict legal action against those responsible. Regarding the matter, Sub-Inspector (SI) Md. Alimuzzaman of Rupganj Police Station confirmed that a written complaint has been received. An investigation is currently underway, and appropriate legal action will be taken based on its findings.
