Benzamin Rafiq/Sabur Khan (Tongi) Gazipur: In Tongi on Monday (July 4) at the initiative of the of the Bangladesh Railway Workers League of Tongi branch, all temporary employees of Bangladesh Railway in Tongi blocked the train movement at the outer signal and held a sit in protest and human chain program. The human chain was organized to protest the recruitment of manpower through contractors and the dismissal of working casual employees.
At that time, the train movement was blocked on both sides and the railway communication with the rest of the country was disrupted.
The Tongi station master confirmed the incident of protest and blockade of the railway line. He told this correspondent of Daily Tourist that the communication system was closed due to the blockade of the railway workers. It has been re-started after 12:30 pm.
Meanwhile, the agitating workers demanded that the skilled workers of Bangladesh Railway are being released on temporary basis. Inhumane orders to recruit manpower through contractors have to be withdrawn. gate keepers (signalmen) need to make the job permanent. So called black law of outsourcing must be repealed.
They further elaborated that they will continue the movement untill the law is repealed.
